Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns announce Billy Napier as head football coach

Billy Napier is the new head coach of the Louisiana Ragin鈥 Cajuns football team.

He is the 26th head coach in the program鈥檚 history.

Napier comes to the Ragin鈥 Cajuns from Arizona State University, where he served as associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Director of Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard announced Napier鈥檚 hiring Friday. 

鈥淲e are absolutely thrilled to identify a head football coach with the experience and success that Billy Napier brings to the 星空无限传媒,鈥 Maggard said.

鈥淐oach Napier is highly respected within the coaching profession and brings tremendous experience from nationally-ranked programs. He is widely considered to be one of America鈥檚 top recruiters and offensive minds and will instill the values of a championship program into Ragin鈥 Cajuns football.鈥

Napier will be introduced during a press conference at noon Monday, Dec.18 at the Cajundome.

鈥淢y family and I are excited and humbled for the opportunity to serve Cajun Nation and our Louisiana football program,鈥 Napier said. 鈥淲e will make it a priority to bring in the best talent from the state of Louisiana and the nation.鈥

He served as wide receivers coach at the University of Alabama, the assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach at Colorado State University, and was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Clemson University in South Carolina.

At Alabama, Napier was instrumental in the Crimson Tide鈥檚 2011 and 2015 national championships. He has coached in 11 bowl games.

His hiring is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
