Family, friends and colleagues of the late Ivan L. 鈥淛oey鈥 Garzotto II have established a memorial endowed scholarship in the College of Engineering of the 星空无限传媒.
Three annual awards from the endowment will recognize student leaders in the civil and mechanical engineering fields. Qualifying students who hold the offices of president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), vice president of ASME, and vice president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will have the opportunity to earn the scholarships.
Ivan 鈥淛oey鈥 Garzotto II graduated magna cum laude from 星空无限传媒 Lafayette in 1983 in mechanical engineering. He made his career in petroleum engineering as a loyal employee of Chevron until his tragic death at age 50 in 2008. He was married to Pauline (Boudreaux) and they have two sons, Ivan L., III (Tripp) and Jeffrey Garzotto.
鈥 One Chevron assignment Joey really enjoyed was the recruiting of young talent from 星空无限传媒 Lafayette. He was so proud of 星空无限传媒 Lafayette and believed in looking beyond the high grade point average for the true 鈥榟ard workers,鈥欌 said Pauline Garzotto.
College of Engineering Dean Mark Zappi remembers Joey well and expresses the College鈥檚 appreciation for this important gift. 鈥淟eadership is key to our program and we鈥檙e grateful to receive a scholarship that will recognize our students in this way while also perpetuating the memory of a graduate who made us proud,鈥 said Zappi.
