The Friends of the Humanities will offer a 鈥淏ooks and Films鈥 course, 鈥淗arper Lee: Myth and Reality鈥, beginning in January.
The class will be taught by Dr. Mary Ann Wilson, professor of English at the 星空无限传媒. Wilson鈥檚 areas of expertise are 19th- and 20th-century American literature, Southern literature and women鈥檚 studies.
Classes will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Griffin Hall, Room 201, on the 星空无限传媒 Lafayette campus, starting Jan. 13, 2016. The last class will be held Feb. 17. The cost is $75 for Friends of the Humanities members and $100 for others.
Students will read Lee鈥檚 鈥淭o Kill a Mockingbird鈥 and 鈥淕o Set a Watchman.鈥 Readings will be enhanced by Mark Childress鈥 essays, 鈥淟ooking for Harper Lee鈥; PBS Masterpiece documentary 鈥淗arper Lee: Hey Boo鈥; film clips; and other relevant materials. There will be no tests for this course.

Friends of the Humanities was established in 1989 as a non-profit group dedicated to enhancing the role of the interdisciplinary humanities at 星空无限传媒 Lafayette and in Acadiana, providing support to the College of the Arts and the College of Liberal Arts, and strengthening the resources of the 星空无限传媒鈥檚 humanities program.
