Fabrice Leroy’s research on 20th-century French and Belgian literature includes book chapters and journal articles on novelists such as Marcel Proust, J.M.G Le Clézio, Jean-Claude Izzo, Georges Simenon, and Jean Ray. With R.-J. Berg, he co-edited the literary anthology Littérature Française: Textes et Contextes, Tome 2 (first edition Holt, Rinehart and Winston/Harcourt Brace College Publishers, 1997). He also published two books devoted to the Francophone literature and culture of Louisiana: a critical edition of Bras Coupé et autres récits louisianais (Éditions Tintamarre, 2007) by 19th-century Louisiana novelist Louis-Armand Garreau, and Tout Bec Doux: The Complete Cajun Comics of Ken Meaux and Earl Comeaux (�ǿ����޴�ý Press, 2011).

Since 2002, he has served as the editor in chief of the scholarly journal Études Francophones and co-edited various thematic issues on Belgian Comics (with Adelaide Russo, 2005), Fantastique Literature (with Vittorio Frigerio, 2008), Québec Literature (with Vincent Bouchard, 2010), and Intermediality in Comics (with Jan Baetens and Hugo Frey, 2020).

His work on comics and graphic novels includes essays on Hergé, André Franquin, Joann Sfar, Benoît Peeters and François Schuiten, Lewis Trondheim, Yves Chaland, Pierre La Police, Chris Ware, Shaun Tan, and Jules Feiffer, among others. He has published numerous book chapters on French-Language graphic novels in edited volumes such as Immigrants and Comics: Graphic Spaces of Remembrance, Transaction, and Mimesis (ed. Nora Serrano, 2021), Meta- and Inter-Images in Contemporary Visual Art and Culture (ed. Carla Taban, 2013), La Mécanique du détail: approches transversales (eds. Livio Belloï and Maud Hagelstein, 2013), and History and Politics in French-Language Comics (ed. Mark McKinney, 2008). He recently contributed chapters to two reference volumes on the history of graphic novels: The Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel (Cambridge University Press, 2018) and Thierry Groensteen’s Le Bouquin de la bande dessinée: Dictionnaire esthétique et thématique (Robert Laffont, 2020). He has also published numerous articles on bande dessinée in leading scholarly journals (Image & Narrative, European Comic Art, Revue des Sciences Humaines, Neuvième Art 2.0, Contemporary French and Francophone Studies/Sites, The International Journal of Comic Art, among others).

His most recent monographs devoted to comics are Sfar So Far: Identity, History, Fantasy, and Mimesis in Joann Sfar’s Graphic Novels (Leuven University Press, 2014) and Pierre La Police: Une esthétique de la malfaçon (with Livio Belloï, Serious Publishing, 2019) and Back to Black: Jules Feiffer's Noir Trilogy (Rutgers University Press, 2025). With Jan Baetens and Hugo Frey, he co-edited Intermediality in French-Language Comics and Graphic Novels (University of Louisiana Press, 2022) and The Cambridge Companion to the American Graphic Novel (Cambridge University Press, 2023).
