C.E. Richard is a noted nonfiction writer whose work includes books, essays, and films. Having written and produced more than two dozen documentary films, Richard’s work has earned recognitions like “Best Historical Documentary” twice at the New York International Independent Film Festival as well as the prestigious “DuPont Columbia Award”— television’s equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize. The focus of most of his writing, both in print and on screen, has been in the field of Louisiana Studies and includes his address of the history, ethnography, literature, and ecology of Louisiana where he finds broad, universal themes amidst the local and particular. Recently, he has also turned his attention to larger historical topics, including World War II narratives. Along with teaching Creative Writing and Louisiana Literature, Richard also serves as one of the English Department’s specialists in Cinema Studies. In 2014, Professor Richard was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor.
